Where did 2026 take you?

This year's countries on one 9:16 card to save or post: how many, which ones, and which were new to you. Pick them yourself or let your photos count them. It all runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Stayed in the States this year? Count states instead.

Pick them

Tap the countries you went to in 2026. It takes a minute and works on any phone.

Count them from photos

Add photos or a Google Maps Timeline export and the page finds 2026 in them, month by month. Add older years as well and it can tell which countries were new.

On iPhone: tap Choose photos, pick from your Photo Library and leave “Location Is Included” on (it is by default). A few hundred photos at a time works well, and each batch adds to the count (Add more photos under the card). Exported your Google Maps Timeline? Tap Choose photos → Choose Files and pick location-history.json (how to export it).

On a computer you can also drop photos or a whole folder on this box. Nothing is uploaded: files are read inside your browser. Check the network tab, or switch off Wi-Fi once the page has loaded. It keeps working.

How this works

What goes on the card
The countries with a photo or a location point dated 2026, how many of them turn up in each month, and how many were new. No dates, no place names below the country, and no photo.
What makes a country new
Nothing you added from that country is dated before 2026. So the page reads every year in your files, not only this one, and when the files hold nothing older than 2026 it calls nothing new. A country you went to years ago without taking a located photo will look new; untick Say which countries were new and the card leaves that out.
Dates
A photo's date is the one its camera wrote, in whatever time zone the camera was set to. A video's is the creation time in its file, in UTC. A Timeline point takes the date of the stretch of the timeline it sits in. A trip over New Year can land a day on either side.
What counts as a country
The 193 UN member states plus Taiwan, the same 194 the photo counter counts. Places such as Hong Kong, Puerto Rico and Vatican City are filled in on the map and named under the card, but not counted. Your own country counts too, if you took a located photo there this year; Edit this year's countries takes it out if you would rather count trips abroad only.
Privacy
No file and no coordinate leaves your device. The only requests the page makes are for its own HTML and scripts, fonts and map file, the same fixed files for everyone, so it keeps working with the network switched off once it has loaded. There are no analytics and no cookies. Share hands your share sheet the image and this page's address; the address carries nothing about your list.
